Intensive studies of hypogean aquatic fauna over the central and southern Europe demonstrated that one of the richest regions in the number of stygobionts (i.e. strictly hypogean species) is the karstified peri-Mediterranean region and a wider Dinaric region (SE Europe) (Sket, 1999; Dole-Olivier et al., 2009b). Less information exists regarding hypogean aquatic fauna from the Alpine areas in Europe (Stoch, 2000; Sambugar et al., 2008; Cristian and Spötl, 2010; Papi and Pipan, 2011). A study from the northern Italian Alps, where high altitude caves were sampled, demonstrated that stygobionts are not as rare as expected for this region (Sambugar et al., 2008). Possible reasons for that could be either re-colonization following the retreat of Würmian glaciers, or their survival in the deep aquifer during the Quaternary glaciations (Sambugar et al., 2008). Karstic aquifers are geomorphologicaly and hydrologicaly highly heterogeneous and difficult to INTRODUCTION

Assessment of the quality of water resources for drinking, agriculture and industry in karstic aquifer of Roein Esfarayen basin of North khorasan province
Groundwater resources are important part of the sweet water available to humans. The present study studies and evaluates the quality of water resources of karstic basin of Roein Esfarayen. For this purpose, sampling of water from water sources was carried out and groundwater quality of the area was evaluated in terms of drinking, agriculture and industry using Schoeller, Wilcox and Langelier di...

An approach is presented to study the functioning of a karstic massif and assess the adverse effects of the anthropogenic pressure by monitoring some water chemical and physical parameters of its main springs. The approach has been applied to the Sette Comuni Plateau (Veneto Region, Italy) hosting a well developed karstic system, whose aquifer presents high vulnerability and undergoes a relevan...
متن کاملKarstic sources of water supply for large consumers in Southeastern Europe – sustainability, disputes and advantages
Southeastern Europe is known worldwide as classic karst terrain. In the Alpine orogenic belt the karstifi ed carbonate rocks are either dominant, as in the Dinarides, or widely distributed, as in the Carpathian-Balkans, Hellenides or Pindes. Concerning karstic groundwater resources, this region is by far the richest in all of Europe. Some areas, such as southern Montenegro, are characterized by...
متن کاملEvaluation of the correlation of faults with karstic springs in the mountain range of Prav Bisotun-Kermanshah
In this research, due to the abundance of tectonic and karstic structures in the Prav Bisotun region, the relation between fault building and karstic springs was evaluated. To do this, we first prepare information layers including the location of the springs, the location of the closed holes, faults, the slope and the elevation floor layer, and then the graph of the grains of the faults is draw...
متن کاملVariation in assemblages of small fishes and microcrustaceans after inundation of rarely flooded wetlands of the lower Okavango Delta, Botswana.
Water extraction from floodplain river systems may alter patterns of inundation of adjacent wetlands and lead to loss of aquatic biodiversity. Water reaching the Okavango Delta (Delta), Botswana, may decrease due to excessive water extraction and climate change. However, due to poor understanding of the link between inundation of wetlands and biological responses, it is difficult to assess the ...
